Start Designing

The designing process is not only important for you to get the exact home you’ve been dreaming of, it’s also important for ensuring your home will be designed to meet industry standards. Believe it or not, a lot of work goes into making homes safe to live in and designing it without taking into considering fire safety, water damage, and other hazards, it could be disastrous down the line. The good news is that if you’re working with a full-service home building company, you won’t have to worry about going out of your way to find a designer who will walk you through the whole process, turning your dream into a reality.

During this stage, it’s important that you aren’t overly ambitious. You’re going to need to make sure you work within your costs and try to save in areas that you don’t absolutely need. It’s best to start with the things you need or want the most in your home, then work outwards from there. It’s important to note that the design process for your home could take up to six months. The reason for this is because there is a lot of work that needs to be done to ensure the home is designed to meet industry standards and will be safe to live in.

Permits, Insurance, And Warranties

It’s important that you go over permits, insurance, and warranties with your home builder. Building permits are what gives you the ability to start building on a piece of land and are absolutely crucial for this whole process. Your home builder will work the details out with you. During the building process, you will need builder’s insurance to protect against anything that could go wrong during the building process. Your home builder will let you know if you need to pay for this or whether it’s their responsibility to get that sorted. Some home builders will offer warranties on certain parts of a home once it’s complete. For minor things, the warranty is typically several years, however, things related to the overall structural integrity of the home could be under warranty for as long as 10 years.

Once the plan is submitted to gain a permit and you’ve made a selection of what materials you want, your home builder or contractor will finish the pricing and write a construction contract. If the costs go outside of your budget, your contractor will work with you to bring down your costs by looking at materials and the general scope of the project.

Construction

Once everything has been approved and your home builder and you feel comfortable with how everything is looking, they will begin construction on your home. This could take a while, but once they’re done, you’ll have your dream home all ready to go!
